In September 2014 a new National Curriculum came into force. Kennington Primary School have adopted a topic based curriculum produced by the Lancashire Professional Development Service Consultants. The curriculum has been designed to be flexible, challenging and inspiring. The units of work have been created so that teachers can plan work to meet the needs of all learners and ensure there is a level of challenge present to stretch all abilities.
The links below give a long term view of the topic themes, a more detailed overview of what is taught in each subject and and overview of how your child should progress through school in Reading, Writing and Mathematics.
In KS1, the children are taught Phonics using the Letters and Sounds guidance produced by the DfE. You can find out more here.
All children are placed on the school reading scheme for their home readers. This is mainly made up of books from the Oxford Reading Tree scheme and supplemented by other suitable books from other schemes.
