On Wednesday we had our Learning Pit Day. The children spent the day in their house teams and went from class to class trying out different challenges. They used the different strategies they have learned over the course of the last term that help them when they ae faced with new challenges or problems. The children really threw themselves into the pit and had great fun trying different ways of getting out. Hopefully they will continue to use the Learning Pit model when they are faced with different challenges in an out of class.
As a school we really want the children to embrace problem solving and challenging situations and not be frightened of failure as making mistkes is all part of the learning process.
One of our favourite qutoes is from the basketball player Michael Jorden who said
"I've missed more than 9000 shots in my career. I've lost almost 300 games. 26 times, I've been trusted to take the game winning shot and missed. I've failed over and over and over again in my life. And that is why I succeed."
